(A BIBLICAL AND CREATIONAL REFLECTION)
Scripture is clear that God is not confined to time, space, or physical matter as we experience it.
Isaiah 57:15 says, “For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy…”
God does not merely live forever. He inhabits eternity itself. That means He exists beyond the timeline that governs our universe.
Modern astronomy has discovered objects that stretch our understanding of time and space, and while the Bible never identifies God with any physical structure in creation, these discoveries can still provoke reflection about the scale and mystery of His power.
One of the most extreme objects known in the observable universe is TON 618, a quasar powered by an ultra-massive black hole.
TON 618 is estimated to be about 13.7 billion light years away from earth, placing it near the observable edge of the known universe. The black hole driving it is estimated to contain roughly 66 billion solar masses. To put that into perspective, our sun is one solar mass. TON 618 contains the mass of approximately sixty-six billion suns compressed into one gravitational center.
Black holes also challenge our understanding of time. According to relativity, time slows dramatically in extreme gravitational fields. From our observational standpoint, the closer something moves toward the event horizon of a black hole, the more time appears to stretch or even freeze relative to outside observers. While this is physics, not theology, it is fascinating that creation itself contains environments where time behaves differently than we experience it.
Scripture repeatedly teaches that God exists outside of time’s limitation.
2 Peter 3:8 says, “One day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”
God is not bound to chronological sequence. He sees the beginning and the end simultaneously. He declares “the end from the beginning” (Isaiah 46:10). The universe operates within time. God operates over it.
Another fascinating feature found throughout creation is the mathematical constant known as phi, commonly called the Golden Ratio. Phi, approximately 1.618, appears repeatedly in natural design, including spiral galaxies, plant growth patterns, shell formations, and biological structures. The Golden Ratio produces proportional harmony, balance, and recurring self-similar patterns known as fractals.
Many spiral galaxies display rotational structures closely aligned with Golden Ratio geometry. This mathematical order appears embedded in both microscopic life and massive cosmic formations, suggesting an underlying design language woven into creation.
Romans 1:20 tells us that God’s invisible attributes are clearly seen through the things He has made. Creation often reflects patterns of order, symmetry, and intentional structure that point beyond itself to a Designer.
It is important to remain biblically grounded when discussing these mysteries. The Bible never states that God lives inside a star, galaxy, or black hole. Scripture consistently presents heaven as a distinct realm of God’s throne, His authority, and His dwelling presence. The physical universe is part of creation, while God exists above and beyond it.
However, studying the scale of objects like TON 618, the time-bending effects of gravitational extremes, and the mathematical precision seen in phi can remind us of how small our understanding is compared to the One who spoke existence into being.
Psalm 19:1 declares, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handiwork.”
Creation is not God. But creation constantly points to Him.
The deeper science explores the universe, the more it reveals a cosmos filled with order, mystery, and incomprehensible scale. For believers, these discoveries can strengthen awe rather than replace faith. They remind us that the God who created galaxies, governs time itself, and embeds mathematical beauty into nature is far beyond human limitation.
God is not confined to the universe. The universe is confined to Him.
