ReelzMegadeth’s Dave Mustaine: ‘I have a personal relationship with Christ, but I don’t believe in religion’

In an interview with the Nashville Scene, Megadeth embodiment Dave Mustaine opened up about his somewhat new-found life as a born-again Christian. Despite being a believer, Mustaine opts to take the “it’s not a religion, it’s a relationship” approach to his beliefs.

“I don’t think that my faith has anything to do with my lyrics. I try and keep religion out of it. Frankly, for me, I don’t believe in religion. I have a personal relationship with God and with Christ, and that’s it. I don’t push that on anybody; it’s private. I kind of leave it there. Dave (Ellefson)’s real open about it.”

Ellefson is a little more outspoken about it, and when asked about touring with the “dark side,” he offered:

Having now read the Bible a few times, I was listening to ‘The Number of the Beast,’ and I said, ‘You know, it’s just the story out of the Book of Revelations.’
